One fixture leaking?
Use the small angle stop on the wall behind or beneath it — under the sink, behind the toilet, on the wall by the water heater. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
Anything bigger?
Go to the main. In most Tucson homes that is a concrete or plastic box at the front of the property by the meter, and often a second valve where the line enters the house.
Water near electrics?

What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Anything actively putting water where it should not be, and anything that has taken out a necessity. A burst or spraying pipe, a water heater dumping onto the floor, sewage coming up a drain or a tub, an overflowing toilet that will not stop, no water at all, or a main line break. A dripping tap at midnight is not an emergency and we will say so rather than charge you for one.
What should I do before the plumber arrives?
Shut the water off. For one fixture, use the small valve behind or beneath it. For anything bigger, find the main shutoff — in Tucson that is usually at the street in a concrete box near the meter, or on the wall where the supply enters the house. Turn it clockwise until it stops. If the leak is anywhere near electrics, switch that circuit off at the panel. For a suspected sewage backup, stop running every fixture in the house, including the washing machine.
